Dear Parents,
Greetings to you all from DPS,
Multi fold learning opportunities that we provide at DPS East continue to enthrall & empower our students as they gear themselves towards facing the challenges of the outside world. This has been possible due to our meticulously planned curriculum & its implementation with a focus to bring out the best in all Dipsites entrusted to our care.
In keeping with this philosophy, the students of class I, II & III were taken for an exciting field trip to Tulip Resort. It was a fun filled day for these little enthusiasts, experiencing nature as well as array of exciting games, without the rigors of the everyday routine.
Our emphasis on the conservation of the environment from a young age saw us conducting a special event titled “Environment Week” that left an indelible mark on our students. Primary students were taken for a Nature Walk around the school campus where they explored the flora & fauna. They brought back mementos of a different kind – leaves, pebbles etc. for use in their scrap book, during this journey of exploration. “Green the Campus” was another activity which helped the children understand the importance of planting trees. This practical exposure also taught our students the Dignity of Labour & made them ‘feel’ for our gardeners who work tirelessly to make our school garden green & beautiful.
The completion of the first year of training showed that our participating students have mastered the expected skills in both Karate & Taekwondo. They have happily graduated to the next belt & are looking forward to be more fit for the exciting times ahead.
It was a great learning experience for our Scouts & Guides when they were taken to Premsevanagar at Kolar. They were given an opportunity to interact at the Old Age Home, Orphanage as well as the Home for the Mentally Retarded. This exposure made them realize the countless blessings showered upon them while sensitizing an option to help their less fortunate brethren. We are sure that such practical exposure to real life situations at a young age will go a long way in equipping them for the life ahead.
The Kindergarteners found joy in the lap of nature, on their visit to “Jerry’s Farm”. They saw all the farm animals in their natural habitat and even fed the ducks and guinea pigs! Each child aspires to have a repeat of the Field Trip!
As you are aware, a very special feature of schooling with DPS is that every child is given an opportunity to gain confidence & come on stage to display his/her latent talent. In keeping with this, the Tiny Tots of our KG section used the opportunity to showcase their talents during the Annual Day Celebrations.
‘Rhyme – n - Rhythm’ by our Nursery children was an awesome performance, especially the grand finale - The Fashion Show, where our little models walked the ramp with aplomb! The L.K.G students rocked the stage with “Musical Magic” as they danced and played a great combination of sporting events on stage. Dance - O – Mania by the UKG students, brought dances from across the globe. The little performers like true rock stars matched their steps to the lilting music with absolute perfection!
Our UKG students had a great time with “Off to the Laundry” when they splashed and rubbed soap on their father’s clean handkerchiefs only to make it cleaner! It was truly an experience which they will not forget. We believe in the ‘Play way Method’ of teaching in our Kindergarten and follow it to the hilt.
“Lest we forget”, all the classes of 2009 – 2010 were captured on celluloid. Everyone posed and smiled into the camera. The class photographs were clicked and will be issued before the school closes for the vacation.
By unfolding sagas through morning assemblies, music, art, drama, field trips, camps, games and cultural events while weaving them into day - to - day lessons, we hope to expand the knowledge base and move forward in our attempt to create students who will find their niche while at the same time enjoying and exploring uncharted domains.
On the academic front, our students have been working hard throughout the year understanding concepts, making notes, doing worksheets, reading and writing. Our extensive use of Educomp and Smartboards has made learning interesting and easy to comprehend. Abstract concepts have now become concrete and we are now entering the “testing time”.
As we are coming closer to the Annual Exams, I would like all of you to devote extra time to your children. This will go a long way in boosting their self confidence and morale. Do create the right balance between study time and leisure for your children. Please also remember that these tender hearts yearn for the warmth of your love. Let us abundantly give this to them.
Please note that we will be organizing ‘Summer Camps’ in our school from April 2010. The details will shortly be uploaded on Lyceum. Beginning April we have also organized, a pleasure - cum - educational camp for the students of Std IV to VIII. Details of the same are available on Lyceum. Those interested to be a part of this camping experience may register at the earliest so as to enable us to make necessary arrangements.
Do remember to log on to www.my-lyceum.net at regular intervals for
updates.
Wishing all my students the “Best of Luck” in their forthcoming exams.
Be Happy - Keep Smiling – Do Well!
God Bless!
With warm regards
Manila Carvalho
