“What we learn with pleasure
we never forget”
Dear Parents,
Greetings to you all from DPS Bangalore (East). Hope you have all had an invigorating start to the New Year & many wonderful times will be yours as the year goes by.
December was truly a “roller coaster” ride for us. We began with the “All India G.K Exam for Classes III to IX, followed by the Maths Olympiad for students of Classes II to IX. This exposure I am sure, has better equipped them as they prepare to answer competitive exams in the years to come.
Education truly extended beyond the confines of our classrooms as we gave it an “international flavour” that transcended global boundaries through our exhibition - “We are the world”. Each student from Class IV to IX utilized this opportunity to display his/her creativity through models, projects, charts, dance presentations & talk shows as they traversed the continents. The displays were spectacular & awesome! Our visiting dignitaries as well as the multitude of parents were very appreciative & applauded the magnificent exhibits.
Not to be left behind, the students of Class I, II & III put up an exhibition on Maths & Science titled “Eureka 2009”. Their models, projects and charts were again, eye catching. They proudly explained the nuances of their creations through Power Point presentations.
Our sincere thanks to you all dear Parents for being such wonderful & co-operative partners without whom this could not have been possible. We look forward to many such joint ventures in the future as well!
You are aware that in line with the CBSE directive we have introduced NSS (National Service Scheme) for the students of Class IX. It focuses on developing the personality of the students through “Community Service”. In this regard, our students attended a seven day camp at Premsevanagar, Kolar, where they visited an old age home, interacted with the physically challenged children & participated in community service. This experience has instilled in them a sense of compassion towards their less fortunate brethren so much so that many of them have promised to do their bit to these unprivileged strata of the society.
The year 2009 ended on a high note with Christmas Carols wafting through the school and the merry tune of “Jingle Bells” being played throughout the day. The beautifully decorated Christmas tree with the twinkling fairy lights & an eye catching “Nativity Scene” enthralled the visitors & children.
The special Christmas Assemblies were a great learning experience for all the students. Once again the “Puppeteers” enthralled all the students of the KG section & students of Class I, II & III as they danced & jived to the latest numbers! Yes, the Puppet Show made an indelible impact. The grand finale to the term & the year were the class-wise “Christmas Parties” where the ‘goodies’ were brought & shared by all. There were also shrieks of joy as Santa Claus came with his bagful of gifts for each child.
We welcomed the New Year & the new term with the essence of Lohri-Pongal- Sankranti, special assemblies marked the occasion. This is in keeping with an unique feature of DPS to celebrate all the festivals so as to inculcate a spirit of ‘oneness’ among the children from an early age.
There was excitement in the air when students of Class III & IV boarded the buses for their field trip to ‘Butterfly Park’ as well as to the Bannerghatta National Park. The students had a whale of time, flitting from one place to another chasing the multicoloured butterflies and enjoying the elements of nature. This was truly a memorable day for them.
The students of Class V,VI,VII & VIII had an exhilarating experience at ‘Wonderla’. The hair raising rides at the Water Park’ left them all clambering for more……..a ‘field-trip which will not be forgotten in a hurry!
The little ones of LKG were taken to a ‘Green House’ for their field trip; when they saw the multicoloured ‘Zerberas’ with their long stalks, they couldn’t take their eyes off them - each child wanted to carry one back as a memento!
You will be happy to note that we have signed for the ‘International School Award’ (ISA) which is an accreditation scheme for curriculum based international work in association with the British Council. Around 10 activities will be planned for classes from I to X. Based on the topics, students will be guided to collect information about other countries, contact the nationals of that country to obtain first hand information, invite foreigners of the selected countries to meet students, organize debates, declamation, etc. that will help determine the acquired knowledge. This scheme offers a framework to form & develop international partnerships while achieving curriculum goals. This tie up will also help in developing our staff & pupils as “global citizens”.
Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic fervor by conducting Special
Assemblies. Patriotic songs, dances & speeches were made by our students as marks of respect & assurance of being responsible citizens of our country. The kindergarteners waved tricolours & pledged to love their motherland!
To sensitize the kindergarteners to our environment we celebrated the ‘Environment Week”. Children explored the wonderful plant kingdom and had hands on experience by watering the trees & plants at our campus. Little creative hands also produced small ‘carry bags’ made out of old newspaper & vowed to give old plastic carry bags for recycling to be used in the making of roads. Let us also follow their example and save our environment by doing our bit as well!
A Math Workshop - ‘Learning by Sharing’ hosted by us for all the Maths teachers of our sister schools was a well coordinated event. The latest teaching methodologies were highlighted as we believe that an exchange of ideas & interaction between teachers is mandatory at all levels.
NSTSE exam was conducted for the students of Classes II-VIII which provides ample opportunities to students to prepare for competitive exams at an early age.
The month culminated with a workshop on ‘Stress Management’ for the students of Class IX organized by the ‘Amelio’ group. The workshop helped the children organize themselves better to handle the mounting pressures & emotional upheavals during the uncertainties of adolescence.
In our pursuit of providing first hand experience we have organized an Educational Cum Pleasure Trip to NASA’s Educational Centre at Huntsville, Alabama for the students from class V to IX. Details of the same has been uploaded on Lyceum as well as on our Website. Should you have any further queries you may feel free to call Mrs. Swetha Gupta our teacher incharge for the programme on 9448948897 or you may meet me at school for further discussion. You can rest assured that all the safety measures will be taken care during this trip.
As always, it is a great feel to be associated with you all. Thank you for your support and good wishes.
With warm regards,
